Has been a key focus area for us with an ever increasing population in the productive age group. A skill analysis study conducted by us recently, revealed that there will be an increase in the availability of skilled jobs in the next five years. But on the contrary it also showed a huge gap between the demand and supply of skilled individuals. Our effort under skill development is an attempt to bridge that gap.

The Foundation runs two JIIT's or Jindal Institute of Industrial Training in Hisar and Jajpur to impart skill based training in various fields to the youth. The main aim of the program is to make them independent and self reliant. The courses taught at the institute have been modified keeping in mind the need of the market. The Institutes have modern training infrastructure and the instructors individually mentor the students. Basic and advanced courses are being run in Dress Designing & Fashion Technology, Electrical, Computer Software, Computer Hardware, Beauty culture, Retail & IT, Customer Service, Auto Sales & Service etc. To ensure that the training programs are at par with the industry requirements, Jindal Stainless Foundation has made strategic partnerships with various Corporates and NGOs. Some of our partners for skill training and development are NIIT Foundation, Schneider Electric, Usha International, Accenture, ITC, Don Bosco etc

Each year the Institutes train over 600 rural youth and assist them in job placements.

Two ITIs in Haryana (Hisar & Nalwa) have been adopted under the public private partnership model with of the Government of India. A course in Stainless Steel Fabrication has been started in collaboration with HISCET & IGNOU under the Community College initiative in. The course will have a mix of theory and practical's. Stainless Steel Fabrication is a first of its kind course to be taught in India.

Similar industry specific courses will be developed to bridge the skill gap.

Women Empowerment is an issue which is very close to our hearts. . We are working directly with over 3500 women through Self Help Groups (SHGs), Skill Training, Computer Literacy and Income Generation Programs. Various programmes on handicraft, beauty culture, dress designing, cookery, dal processing, food processing, agarbatti making, phenyl making, mushroom cultivation, computer literacy programmes etc are being done with the women.

Two hundred Self Help Groups (SHGs) have been formed who are doing regular monthly saving, inter-loaning and are also taking loans from the banks. They have also been exposed to various training programs on enterprise development and marketing of products. Our focus during the years has shifted from a Self Help Group (SHG) model to identifying micro-enterprise opportunities for the women and encourage entrepreneurship. With various capacity development measures and training there is growing confidence among the women and they are eager to take initiatives on their own. Various SHGs are already doing small scale business in phenyl making, agarbatti making, food processing and mushroom cultivation. The produce of these various small scale initiatives are sold locally. Through our CSR initiatives we are identifying new partnerships to take forth the existing initiatives and promote various income generation activities.

India needs to generate at least 10 million new livelihood opportunities a year over the next 15 years to sustain its economy. In this changing scenario a shift can be seen from traditional sources of livelihood, which have limited potential. There is a urgent need to generate new livelihood opportunities.

A number of livelihood programmes are being initiated through community/household programmes in the remote villages or through Self Help Groups.

Programs like:

• Pisciculture
• Betel Vine Cultivation
• Mushroom Cultivation
• Vermicompost
• Stitching/Tailoring
• Promotion of orange flesh sweet potato

Individuals have been provided with trainings and handholding to begin these enterprises and sustain them in the initial phase. Through this program several entrepreneurs have been created who are willing to scale up their work.

Primary health care, which as per the latest McKinsey survey is the Number 2 problem across the world only after climate change, and hence becomes a major area of our intervention programme.

Integrated Health Care programs have been designed to address both preventive and curative health issues. Interventions are carried out through the 400 bedded super-specialty hospital in Hisar, Health Centre, Mobile Health Van program, Awareness Generation Programs, HIV/AIDS intervention, Save the Girl child Program, Cancer and on Drug Abuse.

All these initiatives aim at providing quality healthcare services and also create awareness in the community on various diseases. Along with providing healthcare facilities and outreach facilities, specific interventions have been designed for HIV/AIDS and to address the issue of Female Feticide. The program on female feticide is being implemented in three blocks of Hisar and focuses on creating awareness about the issue and closely monitoring stakeholders like married women, young mothers and hospitals etc.

In accordance with the National Policy on Education, education is viewed essentially for all. This is fundamental to the nation’s all-round development, material and spiritual. Education has an acculturating role. It refines sensitivities and perceptions that contribute to national cohesion. In sum, education is a unique investment in the present and the future.

Our interventions have been designed keeping the above framework in mind and we reach out to maximum children through – formal education, non formal education and remedial education.

Formal education is imparted through the Vidya Devi Jindal School, a residential school for girls in Hisar with over 800 students and O.P. Jindal Modern School, a co-ed school with 3000 students.

Non-Formal Education Centre's are being run in the community and provide basic education to children who are first generation learners and drop outs. The centre's aim at providing basic education to the children and eventually link them to formal schools. Remedial Educations Centre's provide support to older students in subjects like mathematics and science.

At Jindal Stainless Limited we recognize the role of education in facilitating social and economic progress. It opens opportunities leading to both individual and group entitlement. Education in the broadest sense of development of youth, is the most crucial input for empowering people with skills and knowledge and giving them access to productive employment in future.

Under the umbrella of community development we are working on various projects at the community level like Organic Farming, Vermi-Composting, promotion of Bio-gas plant, Betelvine Cultivation, Promoting Alternate Energy etc. These programs have been developed keeping in mind the need of the community and with an aim to reach out to maximum people.
